How can we help you today?

Every child deserves the freedom to play. Play is not only essential for a joyful childhood but also plays a critical role in supporting a child’s mental and emotional wellbeing, particularly during times of illness or injury. Access to play can significantly boost recovery, offering comfort, resilience, and a sense of normalcy when children need it most. The Children and Young People (CYP) who are receiving treatment on Bumblebee Children's ward are facing a serious and inadvertent wellbeing neglect.  For more than a decade, a large plot of land surrounding Bumblebee Ward has sat neglected and under used, leaving children with special needs without a functional outdoor space to enjoy. Currently, child patients including those with diabetes, complex mental health needs and cancer, are confined to dimly lit ward rooms, many lacking openable windows and fresh air, which restricts their exposure to the benefits of nature. The absence of an accessible garden at Bumblebee Ward represents a longstanding wellbeing gap, one that is yet to be prioritise despite over 15 years of need.

Thanks to generous donations from our partners at Children with Cancer UK and King Charles III Charitable Fund, we have launched the ambitious project to rebuild this space into a free, functional and inclusive playground garden.  With the help of our friends at Noble DBR Ltd and Pentagon Play Limited, we will begin the next phase in October 2025, the purchase and installation of the 'HMS Dannie', a wheel chair accessible wooden pirate ship, a wheelchair swing, inclusive in ground carousel, sensory spinners, wooden planters, outdoor musical instruments, sensory panels and much more!

Call to Action: We need your financial support. Are you a local business or corporate? Can you sponsor playground add-ons to this garden project to help children on the ward and their families to enjoy a safe space by the Summer 2025?  Together, we can come together transform transform this garden into a sustainable, functional and inclusive playground and improve the play wellbeing of children receiving treatment, on the ward, their families and the staff that care for them.

Call to Action: Over 310,000 people live in Hillingdon.  If each person donated just under 10p, we would raise £21,000 towards our goal!! If each person donated just 10p, we would raise £31,000 towards our budget. If each person took 2mins out to read this page and donated 20p, we would raise £62,000 the totality of our final fundraising goal and provide a thematic garden for our children, their families and ward staff.

Parent Testimonials

"When my daughter Daniella Logun was receiving treatment for a brain tumour on the ward in 2015, the garden was out of use. Daniella was confined to a cubicle and struggled with the harsh symptoms, emotional and physical side effects of cancer treatment. Dannie passed away 5months later and today, the situation remains unchanged. Children on the ward are still confined to dimly lit rooms without fresh air. This is detrimental to their recovery and holistic wellbeing outcomes!” - From Angela Logun DLF Cofounder & CEO

"We have a live case study of a child diagnosed with cancer going through a mental health crisis. This child is not allowed access out of the unit for safety reasons as it is too risky. If we had our garden, she could go outside and play in a secure and safe environment, which would be hugely beneficial to her mental and physical wellbeing. She is experiencing repeated crisis because she is contained in a paediatric ward for her safety and unable to access the outside space safely” - From Chris Mann Bumblebee Ward Matron.

"This project is very important to me. My 8year old son has Leukaemia and during his outpatient appointments, I must sit in the ward with him and wait for so long to be seen. A garden outside Bumblebee ward will be great and give us an outdoor space near the doctor’s office, where he can play while he waits to be seen!"
