One of the London Borough of Hillingdon Mayor's
Chosen Charities 2022/2023
We are the Daniella Logun Foundation (DLF) and are grateful to be selected by the Worshipful Mayor of the London Borough of Hillingdon, Cllr Becky Haggar, as one of her chosen charities for the year 2022/2023. We provide holistic (emotional, practical and spiritual) wellbeing support to children diagnosed with brain tumours, other cancers and their families/primary carers within Hillingdon and the surrounding areas. Established out of the sad loss of our daughter Daniella Logun, we are active in providing a service that enables families to have a more positive and equitable palliative care journey and an improved experience for children sadly at End-of-Life. Learning from our beautiful Dannie's experience, we know that brain tumours in children are
unlike other cancers, behave differently
and affect the brain & nervous system compared to adults. A diagnosis introduces an
immediate
onset of disabilities - speech, language learning, sight, hearing and mobility. Support is required from diagnosis as many families experience grief
from this point and endure a longer-term
invisible, silent, grieving process. If unaddressed, this has significant implications on the holistic wellbeing and overall quality of life for the child and their family.

for more information.
Childhood brain tumours can be treated but sadly, they will cause early onset disabilities in a child. These are immediately life-changing outcomes. Research shows that 1 in 5 children diagnosed with brain tumours will sadly not survive. This was Dannie's story and has been the same for some of the children whose families we support. The loss of a child feels unnatural, and we can offer support through our lived experience. We welcome self, GP, hospital or community
referrals for families who have lost a child to a childhood cancer.
We launched in February 2020, 2 weeks before the March 2020 lock down. This impacted our operational outreach programmes, fundraising, awareness and recruitment effort.
We offer a unique, bespoke support service to our children & their families and need the input of sponsors, patrons and champions to support our cause. With this opportunity, we can boost our
COVID-19 recovery effort and keep our service sustainable. Please
contact us if you can support us with this search.
There is currently no children's cancer charity within Hillingdon,
and we are active in providing one to one holistic support to our children and their families. We are also in dialogue with local services
to re-establish a children’s hospice/ specialist medically equipped Home-Away-From-Home
within Hillingdon and need a joined up approach. The feeling of isolation during a health crisis can become a safeguarding risk and supporting children and their families to access wellbeing support early can help improve the wellbeing outcomes for the child and their family. Please
contact us if you can help with this project.
Promoting our service involves reaching the right people with hearts and minds invested into this cause. As a new initiative, we are grateful to be selected as one of the Mayor's Chosen Charities and have benefitted from the support of prominent national and local organisational alliances. We recognise that improving the Children's Palliative care service requires joint working across sectors. We need your help to reach key policy leaders and decision-makers in Children & Young People Services, and to build the right networks and infrastructure to support our children & their families.
We need an office base, to consolidate
and
grow our service within the community. Please
contact us if you can help with this search.

Christmas Fundraising Night
(Saturday, 10th December 2022)
Christmas is an exciting time of the year that promises a wonderful feeling of glad tidings, kindness and merry making for many children. Every child deserves to share in this special joy as many families wind down the year and make special plans to celebrate the Christmas festivities together.
Sadly, this is not easily the case for our Children & Young People diagnosed with brain tumours, other cancers and their families. We know that life changes when a child is diagnosed with a brain tumour or cancer. For many of our brave children & young people life-saving complex treatment, chemotherapy, radiotherapy, scans & clinics must continue. This exerts serious pressure on their emotional health and family wellbeing. Sadly, not every family remains a unit through this and many parental relationships breakdown.
In 2022, to show love to our children and remind them how precious they are, we gifted them and their siblings with brand new toys. It was a spectacular fundraising evening with food, live jazz music - featuring Kunmi Akinola the saxophonist and a 4-piece band and a raffle draw! Please look out for our next fundraising live music event Click this link to watch our 2022 promotional video. Thank you! 😊
"Since Jas became ill, I stopped calling my friends & relating to others. I'm really scared to mix with others (due to anxiety of going out, everyday living, judgement & rejection from others)."
"After receiving Chemo Jas's skin started reacting, he's developed dry flay skin and is no longer eating"

Our Cherry Blossom Service supports families who have lost children to a brain tumour or other cancer. No one knows what child bereavement is like except parents who have experienced it. That's what drives us. We offer emotional, physical & spiritual support to those who request it. After all is said and done, the families of these children are often left to pick up the pieces on their own. Family relationships breakdown as the weight of grief bears down on the bereaved family.
We believe
Love heals all and need your help to reach more families with love and friendship. We are looking for
skilled and unskilled volunteers passionate about this cause to help us
regularly befriend and reach out to our families when they feel most alone.
"Thank you for the memory box. It arrived today. It's a very thoughtful gift."
(Mum)
"Wow, you left an amazing touching gift (heart emoji) I burst into tears"
"Thank you, no one has ever gifted me such a precious gift (praying hands & heart emoji)"
(Mum)
