Meet our People
Dannie's diagnosis changed Angela's life. From start to finish, this was an emotional rollercoaster that began with a sense of grief that lingered throughout. The early ripple effect that Dannie's diagnosis had on her family and other children was magnified by the absence of early wellbeing support. Angela’s family felt isolated and stretched in coming to terms with Dannie’s diagnosis, responding to Dannie's care and coping with life as a family affected by childhood brain tumour. Sadly, this experience of longer-term grief is shared by many families affected by childhood brain tumours today.
Driven by a passion to improve quality, a career in Business Management, NHS Clinical Commissioning, Population Health Transformation Programme and the Pharmaceutical Industry, the DLF was established as a niche service dedicated to supporting children diagnosed with brain tumours, other cancers and their families within Hillingdon and the surrounding regional areas.
Angela is a certified London School of Paediatrics Quality Improvement Change Champion. Dr Richa Ajitsaria has worked in Paediatric Oncology since 2003. She undertook her specialist training at Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children before being appointed as a Consultant General Paediatrician at the Hillingdon Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust in 2008, where she is the lead for Paediatric Oncology. Through this role, she has cared for many children undergoing treatment for brain tumours. Richa is a keen supporter of the DLF and believes that her experience and insight working in the NHS will help to promote a more holistic approach to caring for children with brain tumours.
"When Angela got in touch to ask if I would be involved with the DLF, I felt deeply touched. I got to know Dannie and her family during her treatment and she truly was an extraordinary young lady. I know that Angela and Terry have a profound commitment to helping and supporting families who have a child or young person diagnosed with a brain tumour and I am honoured to be able to help."
